Marlene Marie (Hoffman) Farquhar, 82 of Sioux Falls, passed away on July 2, 2026 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A visitation, with family present to greet friends, took place from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Miller Funeral Home Westside (6200 W. 41st St.) in Sioux Falls. A Celebration of Life Service took place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church (2300 S. West Ave.) in Sioux Falls, with interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Marlene was born on June 20, 1944 in Watertown to Orville and Mildred (Stevens) Hoffman. She was raised on the family farm east of Clark and graduated from Clark High School in 1962. She married Sterling Kloster in August 1962 in Clark. Together, they had three children, Julie, Todd and Jill.
Marlene married JB Farquhar on November 5, 1977 in Sioux Falls.
Over the years, Marlene worked in accounting/bookeeping and office management for several businesses, including Parks Insurance, Elks Lodge #262, Ovenden-Wheeler, Inc. and the Washington Pavilion.
Marlene and JB enjoyed traveling and embarked on trips to The Bahamas, Hawaii, England, Scotland, Mexico, Canada and Alaska. They enjoyed escaping a bit of the South Dakota winter with trips to Gulf Shores, Ala. They also attended National Submarine Veterans conferences in Charleston, S.C., Peoria, Ill. and Reno, Nev.
In 1987, they established their beloved cabin on Lake Madison. She was a long-standing member of the Lake Madison Development Association and the Best Point Homeowners Association.
Marlene enjoyed her early morning coffee on the deck while looking at the lake. She loved being near or on the water, but that did not extend to being IN the water. Her kids did talk her into one tubing adventure behind the boat, which earned her the nickname "Seaweed."
Marlene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Of all the titles she wore, none was more important to her than that of "Nana Farquhar." She enjoyed hosting, whether it was at the lake cabin or family gatherings at their home in Sioux Falls. She was a faithful attendee at the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glenn, Dale and Marvin, son-in-law Reed Ramstad, father and mother in law Harold and Elizabeth Farquhar and brother-in-law Ed Farquhar.
Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, JB; daughter Julie Ramstad, son Todd (Kaia) Kloster and daughter Jill (Mike) Jaacks; grandchildren Matthew (Tanya) Ramstad, Nicholas (Chastin) Ramstand, Taylor (Dillon) Swanson and Jacob Kloster, 10 great-grandchildren Harper, Remington and Rhett Ramstad, Ruby and Sage Ramstad, Rylan, Jarrett, Shaeden, Hailey and Bodhi Swanson; brother Neal (Renaé) Hoffman, sister-in-law Karen Hoffman, sister-in-law Sari Farquhar and sister-in-law Kathy (Pete) Bartlett; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
