Merna Wookey died Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Avantara in Clark. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clark Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. A vistation will be held the evening prior on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Furness Funeral Home in Clark. Furness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Merna Louise (Easthouse) Wookey was born January 28, 1934, the daughter of Merle and Treva (Grasse) Easthouse in a farm house near Garden City, S.D., with Dr. Ramsey helping. Merna attended school at Elrod for eight years and then went to Clark High School, graduating in 1952. After high school, she attended cosmetology school in Sioux Falls, graduating in 1953, and worked as a beauty operator for a year-and-a-half.
On October 23, 1954, Myrna was united in marriage to Harold Keith Wookey at the Clark United Methodist Church. To this union, two children were born, Marlys Treva and Dwight Ralph Wookey.
Merna farmed with Harold for 50 years northwest of Crocker. She helped him in the field and did lots of chores. When Dwight got big enough, she helped him in the fields also. Daughter Marlys stayed in the house cleaning, washing clothes and sewing.
Merna was a member of the Crocker Lutheran Church and WELCA. She taught Sunday School for many years and helped with whatever they needed at the church. Merna was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Bradley Unit #108.
Merna loved her family and never missed her children's or grandchildren's activities. Her family was her life, and she dearly cherished the special camping trips. She loved dancing, painting, making feather cards, sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, canning and raising flowers. Merna and her husband had pheasant hunters in the fall for many years.
The couple shared a special bond as they worked side by side every day of their married life; wherever you found one, the other was surely close by. Merna will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Marlys (Mark) Mitchell of Upton, Wyo.; and a son, Dwight (Fran) Wookey of Britton; grandchildren Stanton (Tonia Jacobs) Hicks, Keil (Cindy Hamel) Hicks, Collin Hicks, Philip (Josette) Wookey, Melissa (Josh Scholten) Wookey, and Michelle (Stephan) Tjaden; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Myrna also leaves siblings Anita Watts of Tucson, Ariz. and Mick (Sandi) Easthouse of Willcox, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Dianne Easthouse of Henry; and brother-in-law Larry Wicks of Carpenter.
Preceding Myrna in death were her parents, Merle and Treva Easthouse; her stepmother, Alice Easthouse; her husband, Harold Wookey; and her siblings, Donald Easthouse, Marlene Wicks, Louellen Teeters, Nadine (Lyman) Wookey, Sharon (Marty) Dempster, Lucille (Bob) Johnson and Howard Easthouse.
