The Clark County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in the Commissioner Room of the Clark County Courthouse. Chairman Gjerde called the special meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. with the following Commissioners present at the Courthouse: Chris Sass, Francis Hass, David Spieker, Terry Schlagel and Sara Gjerde. Also present Auditor Tarbox.
COMMUNITY COMMENTS: None.
AGENDA: Motion by Spieker, second by Hass to approve the May 5, 2026 special meeting agenda. All voting aye. Motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION: Motion by Schlagel, second by Spieker to enter into executive session according to SDCL 1-25-2 (1) at 7:02 a.m. All voting aye. Motion carried.
RECESS: Motion by Spieker, seconded by Sass to recess at 8:10 a.m. and reconvene at 9:30 a.m. All voting aye. Motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION: Reconvened at 9:30 a.m. Chairman declared out of executive at 9:32 a.m.
Motion by Spieker, second by Sass to terminate employment of Robert Koistinen, effective immediately, as violation of County personnel policies, standards and conduct. All voting aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Schlagel, second by Hass to terminate employment of John Birnell, effective immediately as violation of County personnel policies, standards and conduct. All voting aye. Motion carried.
ADJOURN: Motion by Schlagel, second by Spieker to adjourn at 9:36 a.m. Next regular meeting Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 8:00 a.m.
