Douglas "Doug" Rasmussen died Friday, April 24, 2026 at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. A public visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Douglas Rasmussen was born in Huron, S.D. to Dean and Judy (Brede) Rasmussen on June 24, 1959. He grew up in Carpenter, S.D. and moved to Pierre in 1967. Doug and his family left Pierre in 1974 and came to Aberdeen, where he went to school at Holgate Middle School and graduated from Central High School in 1977.
Doug was blessed with his son, Eric, in 1982.
Doug continued his education in Mitchell, studying the culinary arts, but that was not meant to be. He began a career in Kansas working for a trailer manufacturing company, and when he decided to come back to Aberdeen, he worked for Hub City as a machinist. This lasted for 35 years, and he retired upon its closing.
Doug was a simple, fun-loving man. He was a staunch conservative Republican and an avid gun collector. If you bought any vehicle other than a Ford, Doug would probably tell you what was wrong with it. A devoted rummager and thrifter, he lived for the bargains. With all of his rummaging, Doug also collected anything and everything he could find on Native American history and culture. He was truly passionate in all aspects of his life. He loved fishing walleye and northern and hunting pheasant, elk, deer and antelope.
Doug loved his friends and family, but his three German shepherds Smokey, Nyko and Zion and Yorkie Morgan were loved above all.
Grateful for having shared Doug's life are his life partner, Jennifer Fauth, son Eric Rasmussen, granddaughter Faith Rasmussen, brother Jay (Laura) Rasmussen and sister Dawn (Robert) Mulac.
Preceding Doug in death are his parents, Dean and Judy Rasmussen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Doug's family.
